Creating Application Engine Processes: Transform
Manual Processing to Batch Processing
Susan E. Allan,
Senior Consultant - Student Administration, The Cedar Group
Application Engine
is a delivered PeopleTool. Often working in concert with Mass Change,
Application Engine jobs are helpful in the mass updating of tables and
records. The advantage they offer over SQRs (standard query reports) is
that they can launch PeopleCode and COBOL programs. Using Mass Change
functionality, they place a lot of control into the functional users and
alleviate technical resources from mundane tasks. Each application engine
job is responsible for updating/inserting into a unique group of tables.
Mass Change is used to identify the population and the table specific
defaults to be updated. Delivered Application Engine jobs exist for
Communications, Checklists and Comments; and User Profile Creation. Client
specific Application Engine jobs have been successful in adding and
deleting service indicators (holds) based on criteria from each Student
Administration module and in inviting individuals to event meetings for
the purpose of event tracking and communication.
The presentation
will discuss, in high level terms, how the Application Engine works;
discuss the merits of Mass Change in relation to Application Engine; and
discuss some of the advantages of the Application Engine processes over
more conventional development mechanisms.

PeopleSoft Parallels
Life

Art Fridrich,
Managing Principal, Higher Education
Cedar Enterprise Solutions
The
experience of implementing PeopleSoft is much like the experience of life.
At first we learn to respect, then we learn to trust, and ultimately we
move towards transformation. This session reflects momentarily upon the
experiences of the PeopleSoft implementation at Coppin State University
where it was learned to respect the system, discusses where Coppin State
University is now in learning to trust it, and culminates in talking about
where the university hopes to go and where you might consider going in
aligning the PeopleSoft suite with institutional strategic goals, as well
as towards your eventual transformation

Adding to Your Bag of Tricks: A few SR and AA
Solutions
Ken Epstein Cedar
UMES has been live
with Student Records for about a year and draft degree progress reports
are being tested in a development environment prior to making them
available to students and advisors. The year of experience has uncovered
a number of conversion errors, we have come to realize that several of our
initial setup decisions are not working exactly as we had hoped they
would, and we have identified some of those nice to have functions that
are really important. In this presentation we will talk about a few of
our favorite solutions. Our tentative agenda includes:
- Redesigning the
repeat rule setup to remove Excluded course data from academic
statistics,
- Using a repeat
rule to grant Academic Clemency for selected courses,
- Setting up
generic University System of Maryland transfer courses, linking them to
specific campuses, and printing the information on the transcript,
- Creating a
Special Usage degree progress report for University General Education
requirements.
We will introduce each solution by
explaining the context in which the problem appeared, followed by a
functional and technical explanation of how the solution works
