Registrar: University of Maryland Baltimore County seeks a University
Registrar to provide leadership and conceptual framework for the delivery of
academic services ranging from academic records, registration and scheduling,
articulation and undergraduate progression towards degree completion. The
Registrar maintains academic records, enforces and recommends academic policy
and procedures. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Enrollment Management,
the incumbent works closely with Deans, academic departments and the
Undergraduate Council. The institution is at a critical juncture in the
implementation of an information system. The Registrar will serve a key role in
the development, configuration and rollout of the new student information
system. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the
Accrediting Board for Engineering Technology, Inc.; and the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education, UMBC offers 37 majors and 32 minors or
certificate programs in the physical and biological sciences, social and
behavioral sciences, engineering, mathematics, information technology,
humanities and visual and performing arts. UMBC's Graduate School offers 27
master's degree programs, 21 doctoral degree programs and seven graduate
certificate programs. Programs are offered in education, engineering, imaging
and digital arts, information technology, life sciences, psychology, public
policy and a host of other areas of interest. Enrolling 9,549 undergraduates and
2,162 graduate students from 45 states and 91 foreign countries, UMBC is
classified as a doctoral research universities – extensive by the Carnegie
Foundation. Requires: a Master's Degree and a minimum of five years'
management-level experience in higher education, preferably in academic services
area, with progressively greater responsibility. Must have experience in
implementing academic policy and in working with a variety of campus
constituencies. Strong communication skills required. Experience with PeopleSoft
Student Administration and/or the implementation of a new student information
system preferred. Salary commensurate with experience and education. Position is

Director of Academic Advising

UMBC, a medium-sized, selective, public research university seeks
applications for the position of Director of Academic Advising.
Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Enrollment Management, the
incumbent will provide leadership to the development, organization,
delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive advisement program to
promote student success and support institutional retention goals.
Specific duties include: providing direct oversight for the delivery
of advising services to undecided/exploratory students,
pre-professional students and other target populations; working
through the Deans to coordinate advising services at the College and
department levels as well as supplemental advising offered through
special Scholars Programs, Honors College, and Athletics; serving on
the campus Student Retention committee; overseeing the evaluation and
assessment of advising services and programs; and performing other
duties as assigned.
Requires a Master's degree and a minimum of five years progressively
responsible administrative and supervisory experience providing
academic advising or related academic support in a higher education
setting. Must have strong communication skills. Demonstrated success
in implementing effective advising programs required.
